The 1 Division Nigerian Army has assured the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) of its readiness to provide security support for the forthcoming national elections, pledging to maintain a professional and apolitical posture throughout the electoral process.
The General Officer Commanding (GOC), 1 Division Nigerian Army and Commander, Sector 1 Operation FANSAN YAMMA, Major General Abubakar Sadique Muhammad Wase, gave the assurance on Wednesday, November 4, 2026, when the Administrative Secretary and Acting Resident Electoral Commissioner in the state, Abba Yahaya, paid him a courtesy visit at the Division’s Headquarters.
In a statement issued by the Deputy Director, Army Public Relations, 1 Division Nigerian Army, Colonel Abubakar Abdullahi, the GOC said the Nigerian Army had, over the years, acquired considerable experience in supporting critical civil institutions, particularly during electoral processes.
He explained that the Army’s role would primarily focus on providing outer-perimeter security, while ensuring that its personnel remain professional, neutral and apolitical in the discharge of their responsibilities.
General Wase further assured INEC that security arrangements had made all local government areas across the state accessible and safe for the conduct of elections.
He urged the Commission to intensify voter education and ensure that its ad-hoc personnel were adequately informed about the respective responsibilities and operational roles of security agencies deployed for the elections.
Earlier, Yahaya said the visit was part of his engagement with key stakeholders in the state ahead of the forthcoming polls.
He commended the existing cordial working relationship between INEC and security agencies, particularly the Nigerian Army, while seeking stronger collaboration to ensure a peaceful and credible electoral process.
The Acting Electoral Commissioner expressed appreciation to the GOC for the warm reception and acknowledged the Division’s commitment to supporting the Commission during the elections and beyond.
