0 Admin

The Nigeria Security and Civil Defence Corps (NSCDC) has suspended an officer, Deputy Superintendent of Corps (DSC) Onoja Babayo Samuel, over his alleged involvement in the shooting incident at Kubwa Market, Abuja.

The officer was arrested by the FCT Police Command following allegations that he fired shots into the air during a confrontation with traders at the market on October 25, 2026.

The NSCDC management described the officer’s alleged conduct as unprofessional, noting that the use of firearms in such circumstances constitutes a gross violation of the Corps’ rules of engagement and Standard Operating Procedures (SOP).

The National Public Relations Officer of the Corps, Assistant Commandant of Corps Babawale Afolabi, disclosed this in a press statement dated October 29, 2026.

According to the statement, the Commandant General of the NSCDC, Prof. Ahmed Abubakar Audi, has directed the immediate suspension of the officer and ordered an Orderly Room Trial to establish his level of culpability in the alleged offence.

Audi, who maintains a zero-tolerance policy towards misuse of firearms and professional misconduct, also directed that the officer face the Corps’ disciplinary committee at its National Headquarters in Abuja.

Consequently, Samuel has been stripped of all official responsibilities and relieved of his assignment pending the conclusion of the disciplinary proceedings.

The Corps said the outcome of the Orderly Room Trial and internal disciplinary process would be made public upon completion.

The Commandant General reassured members of the public of the NSCDC’s commitment to protecting lives, maintaining professional standards and ensuring public safety.

He further warned that the Corps would neither tolerate nor shield any personnel whose actions endanger members of the public or violate established operational guidelines.
