The Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) has announced plans to make the Preliminary Register of Voters for the 2027 General Election available on its online platform, following concerns from Nigerians and other stakeholders over public access to the register.
The Commission said the decision was taken to complement the physical display of the Preliminary Register earlier conducted nationwide from October 9 to 15, 2026, in accordance with Section 19 of the Electoral Act, 2026.
In a press statement issued by the Chairman of INEC’s Information and Voter Education Committee (IVEC), Mohammed Kudu Haruna, the Commission explained that the online publication was introduced to promote transparency, accessibility and public confidence in the electoral process.
According to INEC, the same Preliminary Register previously displayed at Registration Areas will now be accessible through its dedicated online portal: https://display.inecnigeria.org.
The Commission noted that the additional measure would enable more Nigerians to access and inspect the register, while efforts continue to process claims and objections arising from the physical display exercise.
INEC further disclosed that the exercise remains part of preparations for the certification and publication of the Final Register of Voters, scheduled for December 15, 2026.
Reaffirming its commitment to credible elections, the electoral body appreciated Nigerians and other stakeholders for their continued interest and constructive engagement, assuring that it would faithfully implement the provisions of the Electoral Act, 2026.
The Commission said transparency, accountability and wider public participation remain central to its preparations for the 2027 General Election.
