Operatives of the Federal Capital Territory (FCT) Police Command have arrested a Deputy Superintendent of the Nigeria Security and Civil Defence Corps (NSCDC), identified as Onoja Samuel, for allegedly firing shots into the air at Kubwa Market, Abuja.
The suspect was arrested on October 25, 2026, at about 1:50 p.m., following a distress call to the Kubwa Police Division reporting that an armed man was shooting sporadically in the market. The Police Public Relations Officer, FCT Command, SP Josephine Adeh, disclosed this in a statement.
According to the statement, police operatives who responded to the distress call disarmed and arrested the suspect, recovering a CZ pistol and 17 rounds of live 9mm ammunition from him.
Preliminary investigations revealed that the suspect allegedly went to the market armed after receiving reports that some traders had assaulted his wife. He was said to have engaged the traders in an argument before firing several shots into the air.
The suspect remains in police custody and will be charged to court upon the conclusion of investigations.
Meanwhile, the Commissioner of Police, FCT Command, CP Ahmed Muhammed Sanusi, has urged personnel of sister security agencies to exercise restraint and notify the nearest police division before carrying out authorised operations within the FCT.
He said proper coordination among security agencies was essential to prevent avoidable confrontations and ensure public safety.
The Command also urged residents to report emergencies through its dedicated lines: 08032003913 and 08061581938.
