Troops of the Joint Task Force North West, Operation FANSAN YAMMA, have thwarted a suspected terrorist attack, recovered an AK-47 rifle and ammunition, and arrested a suspected criminal during separate operations in Kaduna State.
The operations were conducted on September 23 and 24, 2026, as troops intensified efforts to deny terrorists and other criminal elements freedom of action within the Joint Operations Area.
According to the Media Information Officer of Operation FANSAN YAMMA, Lieutenant Colonel Aliyu Danja, troops of Sector 1, acting on credible intelligence about the movement of terrorists through the bushes around Rijana in Kachia Local Government Area, swiftly mobilised to the area and laid an ambush.
The troops engaged the terrorists when they sighted them, forcing them to flee. During a follow-up search of the area, the soldiers recovered one AK-47 rifle, a magazine loaded with 13 rounds of ammunition, one magazine carrier and a military jungle hat, among other items.
In a separate operation at Awom village in Kachia LGA on the same day, troops conducted a clearance operation aimed at denying terrorists and other criminal elements safe haven in the community.
During the operation, the troops arrested a suspected criminal identified as Jacob, who was allegedly found in possession of a fabricated pistol and seven rounds of ammunition.
The suspect remains in military custody for further investigation, while troops of Operation FANSAN YAMMA continue offensive and clearance operations to disrupt terrorist activities and protect communities across the Joint Operations Area
