The Police Service Commission (PSC) has commenced a four-day Comprehensive Data Protection Awareness Programme aimed at strengthening data security, privacy and regulatory compliance among its officials.
The programme, which began on September 21 at the Commission’s Corporate Headquarters in Abuja, was formally flagged off by the PSC Chairman, DIG Hashimu Salihu Argungu (rtd).
In a statement issued by the PSC Head of Protocol and Public Relations, Torty Njoku Kalu, Argungu stressed the growing importance of data security in modern policing and public administration.
He urged participants to take full advantage of the training to enhance the Commission’s capacity to protect sensitive information and comply with applicable Nigerian data protection regulations.
The programme is being organised by Charistech Consulting Ltd., a licensed Data Protection Compliance Organisation, in partnership with the PSC.
Speaking at the event, the Chief Executive Officer of Charistech Consulting Ltd., Philip Aiwekhoe, said the training curriculum was strictly aligned with the Nigeria Data Protection Act (NDPA) 2023.
According to him, the programme is designed to equip PSC officials with practical knowledge of regulatory compliance, risk mitigation and secure data-handling practices.
The training, scheduled to run from September 21 to 24, is structured to cover all categories of staff and members of the PSC Board, while prospective Data Protection Officers will participate in a dedicated session on September 23.
The Commission said the initiative was specifically tailored to personnel handling sensitive operations, with the objective of promoting a stronger culture of data security and privacy awareness.
Facilitators at the programme noted that improved awareness and compliance would help the Commission reduce the risk of data breaches while strengthening its adherence to Nigeria’s data protection framework.
Officials of the Nigeria Data Protection Commission (NDPC) were also present to observe the training and its implementation.
