The Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) has declared the former Chairman of the Presidential Task Force on Pension Reforms, Abdulrasheed Maina, wanted over an alleged case of receiving stolen property.
The anti-graft agency announced this in a wanted notice issued on Wednesday and signed by its Head of Media and Publicity, Dele Oyewale.
According to the EFCC, Maina, 61, an indigene of Biu, Borno State, is wanted in connection with an alleged case of receiving stolen property.
The commission urged anyone with useful information about his whereabouts to assist in locating him, directing members of the public to contact its offices in Abuja, Lagos, Maiduguri, Kano, Kaduna, Ibadan, Uyo, Sokoto, Benin, Makurdi, Ilorin, Enugu, Gombe and Port Harcourt.
The EFCC also provided its official telephone and email channels, including info@efcc.gov.ng, for members of the public to submit relevant information. It further advised anyone with information to contact the nearest police station or other security agencies.
However, the latest wanted notice did not provide details of the stolen property allegedly received by Maina or indicate when the alleged offence occurred.
Maina has previously faced prolonged legal proceedings over allegations connected to pension funds. He was earlier declared wanted by the EFCC after failing to appear for trial in a case involving alleged N2 billion fraud linked to the pension reform programme.
He was arrested in Niger Republic in 2019 and returned to Nigeria to face trial.
In November 2021, a Federal High Court in Abuja convicted Maina and sentenced him to eight years’ imprisonment for money laundering offences.
The Nigerian Correctional Service later confirmed that Maina was released from custody on February 25, 2025, after serving part of his sentence, citing his good conduct and applicable provisions governing the release of inmates.
The latest EFCC notice marks a fresh development in the long-running legal saga involving the former pension reform task force chairman.
