The Osun State Police Command has warned against any planned protest capable of disrupting public peace, threatening lives and property or causing a breakdown of law and order in the state.
The warning followed intelligence received by the Command over a purported protest notice allegedly issued by a faceless group identified as the “Congress of Cultists,” which the police said is associated with the Neo-Black Movement, also known as Black Axe.
In a statement on Sunday, the Police Public Relations Officer, DSP Abiodun Ojelabi, said the Command and other security agencies would not allow individuals or groups to exploit the situation to cause chaos or engage in criminal activities.
The police urged persons with grievances or disputes to pursue lawful means of resolving them, warning against violence, self-help and reprisal attacks.
Meanwhile, the Command disclosed that it had commenced a discreet investigation into a recent killing in the state.
According to the police, the investigation has yielded useful leads, while some suspects identified in connection with the incident remain at large. Efforts are ongoing to track and arrest them.
The Command appealed to members of the public with information about the killing to come forward, assuring them that such information would be treated confidentially.
The Commissioner of Police, CP Ibrahim Zungura, also called on parents, community leaders, traditional rulers, religious leaders and other responsible citizens to prevail on youths and others not to participate in activities capable of destabilising the state.
The police urged residents to remain calm, law-abiding and vigilant, and to promptly report suspicious activities or movements to the nearest police station or other security agencies.
The Command said it remained committed to protecting lives and property and maintaining peace and public order across Osun State.
