The Nigerian Navy has recovered approximately 80,000 litres of crude oil and arrested three suspected drug traffickers in separate operations conducted in Delta State.
The operations, carried out by personnel of NNS DELTA under Operation DELTA SENTINEL, targeted crude oil theft and illicit drug activities across the state.
In the first operation on September 21, troops discovered a dugout reservoir containing about 30,000 litres of crude oil in the Oteghele general area. Two days later, another 50,000 litres of crude oil was uncovered in a large dugout reservoir at the Obodo Amadino general area.
The Navy said the recovered crude oil was handled in line with established procedures.
Meanwhile, in a joint operation with the National Drug Law Enforcement Agency (NDLEA) on September 22, personnel of NNS DELTA arrested three suspected drug traffickers in the Warri general area and its environs.
The operation also led to the seizure of about 15 kilogrammes of Cannabis sativa, 0.5 gramme of cocaine and 0.5 gramme of methamphetamine, popularly known as crystal meth.
The suspects and recovered substances were subsequently handed over to the NDLEA for further investigation and necessary action.
The Director of Naval Information, Navy Captain Abiodun Folorunsho, said the operations demonstrated the Navy’s efforts to tackle crude oil theft, illegal petroleum activities and illicit drug trafficking through sustained operations and inter-agency collaboration.
