The Federal Government has unveiled fresh strategies to tackle insecurity across the country, with plans to strengthen military operations, improve inter-governmental collaboration and deploy additional operational equipment to troubled areas.

The Minister of State for Defence, Dr. Bello Muhammad Matawalle, disclosed this on Monday during a condolence and security assessment visit to the Kano State Government House following the August 29 attack on Chiroma Village in Garun Mallam Local Government Area.

Matawalle, who conveyed the Federal Government’s sympathy to the Kano State Government and affected communities, assured residents that the administration of President Bola Ahmed Tinubu remained committed to defeating insecurity and restoring peace across the country.

Five-Year Security Plan

The Minister revealed that President Tinubu had constituted a committee to develop a Five-Year Defence and Security Plan, which he said would provide a long-term framework for confronting security threats nationwide.

According to him, the plan would complement ongoing military operations while ensuring more strategic and coordinated responses to emerging threats.

“We will continue doing everything possible to support our security services to ensure our country is safe. I assure you that soon, insecurity will be a thing of the past, and we will all live in peace and prosperity,” Matawalle said.

Victims Rescued After Garun Mallam Attack

Giving an update on the Garun Mallam incident, the Minister said troops had responded swiftly to the attack through a joint rescue operation led by the Commander, 3 Brigade, Kano, Brigadier General Jimoh.

He said personnel from the Joint Task Force, including troops from Hawan-Kwano and Kwanar Dangora camps, participated in the operation.

The operation resulted in the rescue of kidnapped victims around Yan-Kifi Bridge and Marabar Kwari areas of Garun Mallam Local Government Area.

Matawalle commended the troops for their courage and prompt response, assuring that the Federal Government would continue to strengthen the operational capacity of the Armed Forces and other security agencies.

More Weapons, Fighting Vehicles for Kano

The Minister also announced plans for increased Federal Government support to Kano State, including the deployment of additional fighting vehicles, weapons and other operational enablers to boost ongoing security operations.

Earlier, Matawalle held a closed-door security meeting with commanders of 3 Brigade and other military formations in Kano, where he directed them to sustain the momentum of ongoing operations and intensify efforts to protect vulnerable communities.

He stressed that defeating insecurity would require the combined efforts of the federal, state and local governments, as well as timely and credible intelligence from citizens.

“It takes the combined effort of local government, state and federal levels to tackle this issue of insecurity. We also need timely and credible information from citizens to security agencies,” he said.

Governor Pledges Support

Kano State Governor, Abba Kabir Yusuf, thanked the Minister for the visit and pledged the state government’s continued cooperation with the Federal Government in the fight against insecurity.

“We are confident in your leadership. At the state level, we will continue to do what needs to be done to ensure security and stability in Kano,” the governor said.

He added that the state would work with the Federal Government to ensure that the security challenges confronting Kano did not persist.

Matawalle reiterated that the Federal Government remained determined to provide the resources and institutional support required to protect lives and property while safeguarding the nation’s territorial integrity.
