Tinubu disclosed this in a post on his official handle on Monday evening, saying the victims had been rescued and were receiving medical attention ahead of their reunion with their families.
According to the President, the victims comprised eight males and 13 females and were rescued from a kidnappers’ hideout in the forests of Ofu Local Government Area of Kogi State.
He said the successful operation was carried out by a combined Search and Rescue (SAR) team comprising personnel of the military, the Nigeria Police Force, the Department of State Services (DSS) and local vigilantes.
The President expressed relief over the safe recovery of the abductees, describing them as innocent and law-abiding Nigerians.
Security Forces Hunt Kidnappers
While confirming the rescue, Tinubu said security forces had not relented in their efforts to apprehend the kidnappers responsible for the abduction.
He said the security agencies were still pursuing the fleeing criminals in line with his directive to maintain sustained pressure on criminal elements across the country.
Tinubu vowed that those behind the crime, including anyone who assisted or facilitated the abduction, would face the full weight of the law.
“Those responsible will face the full weight of the law, and our security agencies will pursue everyone who aided this crime,” the President said.
President Commends Rescue Team
Tinubu commended the combined SAR team for its courage and coordinated efforts in securing the release of the victims.
He also appreciated the families and loved ones of the abductees for their patience and understanding during the ordeal.
The President reiterated his administration’s commitment to creating an environment where Nigerians can travel across the country without fear.
He specifically reassured parents and families of NYSC members that the safety of corps members remained a priority of his administration.
“As I share in the relief and joy of the parents and loved ones of the rescued individuals, I want to once again assure parents and loved ones of our dedicated corps members that my administration remains committed to ensuring the safety of their lives and property, as well as those of other Nigerians,” Tinubu said.
