The Delta State Police Command has arrested two suspects and recovered two pump-action guns, 18 live cartridges and other dangerous items in separate intelligence-led operations aimed at curbing the proliferation of illegal firearms and violent crime in the state.
Operatives of the Violent Crime Response Unit (VCRU), acting on credible intelligence, raided a residence in Obiaruku on September 12, 2026, where they arrested 36-year-old Joel Iwomi of Umuebu, Obiaruku.
Police said the suspect resisted attempts to gain access to the premises, but operatives eventually entered and recovered a pump-action gun and 18 live cartridges.
In a separate operation conducted on September 9, operatives of the Command Anti-Cult Unit (CACU) arrested Chukwuka Nzete, also known as “Ododo,” from Isupe Community, Ndokwa West Local Government Area.
Police said Nzete was suspected of involvement in the illegal sale and proliferation of firearms and allegedly operated a shrine where suspected criminal elements were fortified.
A search of his residence reportedly led to the recovery of another pump-action gun, four dagger knives, a battle axe and pots containing substances suspected to be charms. Both suspects are in custody as investigations continue.
The Commissioner of Police, Delta State Command, CP Samuel E. Erale, reaffirmed the command’s resolve to deny criminals access to illegal firearms and other weapons, while urging residents to remain vigilant and provide credible information on suspicious persons and criminal activities. He assured the public that actionable information would be treated with confidentiality.
