A Boko Haram/Islamic State West Africa Province (BH/ISWAP) fighter has surrendered to troops of Operation HADIN KAI (OPHK) with an AK-47 rifle and other weapons, while six suspected members of a kidnapping syndicate were arrested in separate operations across Borno and Adamawa states.

The Acting Military Information Officer, Captain Mohammed Goni, disclosed this in a statement on Monday, saying the operations were conducted on September 13, 2026.

According to him, troops of 29 Task Force Brigade, Sector 2 OPHK, working with Forest Guards, received the repentant terrorist at Borgozo in Benisheikh, Kaga Local Government Area of Borno State. Preliminary investigation showed that he had escaped from a terrorist enclave with the intention of abandoning terrorism.

The troops recovered one AK-47 rifle, 14 rounds of 7.62mm Special ammunition, four magazines, one Improvised Explosive Device (IED), a magazine pouch and a bicycle from the surrendered fighter. He is currently in military custody undergoing further investigation and profiling.

In Adamawa State, troops of Sector 4 OPHK, acting on credible intelligence, raided a suspected kidnapping hideout around Soktu Hill in Song Local Government Area in conjunction with local hunters. Three suspects were initially arrested and one Dane gun recovered.

Captain Goni said further investigation and covert operations led to the arrest of three additional suspects, bringing the total number of suspected kidnappers apprehended to six. Preliminary investigation indicated that the syndicate operated around Soktu, Dumne and Maigero areas of Song LGA.

The suspects reportedly admitted involvement in the abduction of several victims for ransom and other violent crimes in the area. They remain in military custody for further investigation and possible legal action.

The Theatre Command said the operations reflected the sustained pressure being mounted against terrorists and other criminal elements in the North-East, with troops continuing efforts to deny them freedom of action and create a safer environment for residents and economic activities.
