The Nigerian Navy has commissioned a Special Intervention Quick Impact Project comprising an industrial solar-powered borehole, a 60,000-litre overhead water tank, and a water reticulation system in Esie Kingdom, Irepodun Local Government Area of Kwara State.
The project, commissioned on Thursday, July 30, 2026, was executed under the Nigerian Navy’s Corporate Social Responsibility (CSR) programme in honour of retired Rear Admiral Ibrahim Mohammed-Katsina as a tribute to the hometown of his late wife, Princess Barrister Basirat Babalola Mohammed-Katsina.
Representing the Chief of the Naval Staff, Vice Admiral Idi Abbas (Admiralty Medal), the Director of Veteran Affairs, Rear Admiral Raheem Taofeeq, said the intervention was part of the Chief of the Naval Staff Special Intervention Quick Impact Project aimed at improving the welfare of host communities. He added that the initiative aligns with the Federal Government’s Renewed Hope Agenda while recognising the contributions of distinguished senior naval officers.
According to him, the project reflects the Nigerian Navy’s commitment to supporting communities beyond its core mandate of maritime security by delivering sustainable infrastructure that improves the quality of life for citizens.
The Special Guest of Honour and traditional ruler of Esie Kingdom, His Royal Majesty Alhaji Yakub Agboola Ibrahim Babalola, Egunjobi II, commended the Chief of the Naval Staff for the intervention, describing it as a landmark project that would significantly address the community’s long-standing potable water challenges.
The monarch noted that access to clean water would improve public health, hygiene, and sanitation while enhancing the overall well-being of residents.
Speaking at the ceremony, Rear Admiral Ibrahim Mohammed-Katsina (Rtd.) expressed gratitude to the Chief of the Naval Staff for providing the opportunity to give back to Esie Kingdom, the hometown of his late wife, through the impactful community development initiative.
The commissioning ceremony was attended by the Chief of Staff to the Kwara State Government, members of the Council of Chiefs, senior military officers, and other dignitaries, who lauded the Nigerian Navy’s commitment to community development through its corporate social responsibility initiatives.
