Troops of the Headquarters, 32 Artillery Brigade of the Nigerian Army, on Friday conducted a routine military route march across parts of Akure, the Ondo State capital, in a move aimed at enhancing operational readiness, physical fitness and public confidence in the military.
The exercise commenced from the Owena Cantonment, proceeded through Ondo Road and other major parts of Akure metropolis before returning to the cantonment.
In a statement, the Army Public Relations Officer of the Brigade, Captain IP Omale, described the route march as a routine military training exercise involving a large number of troops.
He urged residents not to be alarmed by the movement of soldiers, assuring them that the exercise posed no threat to public safety.
Captain Omale advised members of the public to remain calm, continue with their lawful activities, and avoid unnecessary panic while the exercise was ongoing.
The route march forms an integral part of the Nigerian Army’s training programme designed to maintain the physical endurance, combat preparedness and discipline of personnel. It also provides troops with an opportunity to familiarise themselves with their operational environment, improve coordination and strengthen their ability to respond swiftly to emergencies or security threats.
Beyond its training value, the exercise demonstrates the Army’s commitment to sustaining a high level of operational efficiency and reassuring residents of its readiness to protect lives and property. Such activities also foster stronger civil-military relations by promoting visibility, building public confidence and encouraging cooperation between the military and host communities.
The Nigerian Army reaffirmed that the exercise was purely routine and appealed to residents to continue supporting security agencies with credible information that would contribute to maintaining peace and security across the state.
