The Nigerian Air Force has sustained its intelligence-led air operations against terrorists and other criminal elements in Zamfara State, following a recent armed reconnaissance mission over the Bayarzaki River area.
The operation, conducted on Wednesday, August 12, 2026, followed credible intelligence on the movement of suspected terrorists around the Bayarzaki River.
A NAF A-Jet deployed for the mission conducted extensive surveillance over Bayarzaki and surrounding locations, including Ruwan Rana, Sabli, Kada Daba, Kwana Maje, Nasarawa, Rafin Gero, Ramfashi and Mumuma Hill.
Further intelligence indicated the presence of suspected terrorists concealed south of the riverline, prompting the aircraft to engage the identified location from the air.
The NAF said no further movement was observed following the engagement, as the aircraft maintained an aerial presence over the area before safely returning to base.
The operation underscores the Air Force’s continued reliance on intelligence-led airpower to detect and disrupt terrorist activities while providing support to ground forces conducting security operations.
The NAF said its air operations involve coordinated efforts among intelligence personnel, aircrew, mission planners, engineers, logistics teams and other specialists to ensure timely responses to emerging threats.
The Service also reaffirmed its commitment to maintaining persistent surveillance and denying terrorists the freedom to operate, particularly in communities affected by insecurity.
It said its personnel would continue to work alongside other security agencies to protect lives, secure communities and create the conditions necessary for peace and stability across the country.
