Dolly Parton, the legendary country music singer, songwriter, actress and philanthropist who rose from humble beginnings in the mountains of East Tennessee to become one of America’s most beloved cultural icons, has died at the age of 80.
Her family announced her death on Tuesday through a video posted on her official Instagram account.
Parton’s nephew, Brian Seaver, delivered the announcement on behalf of the Parton and Owens families. He did not disclose the cause or circumstances of her death.
“My name is Brian Seaver, son of Cassie Parton, and I’m representing the Parton and Owens family today announcing the passing of my aunt, Dolly Rebecca Parton Dean,” Seaver said.
He described Parton as “Sister, Sis and Granny to one generation and Gigi to the next.”
Parton, widely known as the “Queen of Country,” built a remarkable career spanning music, film, television and business. She became one of country music’s most influential figures, earning global recognition for her distinctive voice, songwriting and larger-than-life personality.
Her journey from a poor childhood in Tennessee to international stardom made her one of the most celebrated entertainers of her generation.
