Troops of Sector 2, Operation HADIN KAI (OPHK), have foiled a Boko Haram/ISWAP terrorist mission aimed at extorting local communities in Yobe State, neutralising one terrorist and recovering weapons, ammunition and logistics items during the operation.
The Acting Military Information Officer, Headquarters Joint Task Force (North East) Operation HADIN KAI, Captain Mohammed Goni, disclosed this in a statement on Tuesday, saying the operation dealt another blow to terrorist logistics and illicit revenue networks in the North-East.
According to the statement, troops of the Forward Operating Base (FOB) Bukarti, in conjunction with the 27 Task Force Brigade, acted on credible intelligence regarding the movement of two Volkswagen Golf vehicles and motorcycles conveying suspected Boko Haram/ISWAP terrorists to collect illegal levies from communities along the Paya Kafiya axis.
The troops swiftly launched an aggressive fighting patrol on July 19, 2026, and made contact with the terrorists, engaging them with what the military described as overwhelming and superior firepower.
During the firefight, one of the Volkswagen Golf vehicles was successfully engaged and immobilised, while its driver was neutralised. Four other terrorists reportedly abandoned the vehicle and fled into the surrounding bush with gunshot wounds after failing to withstand the troops’ assault.
Follow-up exploitation operations conducted on July 20 along the Paya Kafiya–Garin Gada axis led to the recovery of the abandoned Volkswagen Golf vehicle, 25 rounds of belted PKT ammunition, one loaded AK-47 magazine, 15 empty PKT ammunition cases, assorted drugs, including paracetamol and nicotine products, as well as mechanical tools believed to have been used to support terrorist logistics and sustainment activities.
The military said the operation further demonstrated the effectiveness of intelligence-led operations in disrupting terrorist activities, dismantling their illegal revenue generation networks and denying them freedom of movement across the North-East.
Operation HADIN KAI reaffirmed its commitment to sustaining offensive operations against Boko Haram and ISWAP terrorists in collaboration with other security agencies and with the support of law-abiding citizens until lasting peace and security are restored across the region.
