Troops of Operation FANSAN YAMMA have repelled a coordinated terrorist attack on Ungwalelle Village in Zamfara State, killing several attackers, arresting three suspected collaborators and preventing what could have been a more devastating assault.

The attack occurred on 26 July 2026, when an unconfirmed number of heavily armed terrorists invaded Ungwalelle Village from multiple directions while another group attempted to engage troops’ positions in the area.

According to military sources, troops deployed from Tsamaye responded swiftly to the attack, launching a coordinated counter-offensive. The troops struck the rear of the village while simultaneously engaging the terrorists with sustained suppressive fire, disrupting the assault and forcing the attackers to retreat after a fierce exchange of gunfire.

Despite the successful military response, the terrorists reportedly rustled an unconfirmed number of cattle before fleeing the area.

The operation, however, came at a cost. Some military personnel sustained injuries during the engagement and were immediately stabilised at Mailelle Hospital. Arrangements are underway to evacuate the wounded soldiers to the 8 Division Medical Services and Hospital (8 DMSH) for further specialised treatment.

Military sources disclosed that several terrorists were neutralised during the operation, while three suspected terrorists were arrested and are currently in custody for further investigation and necessary action.

Sadly, the attack also claimed the lives of three members of the local community, while three other civilians sustained serious injuries. The injured victims are receiving medical attention.

Operation FANSAN YAMMA reaffirmed its commitment to sustaining aggressive operations against terrorists and bandits across the North-West, assuring residents that troops remain resolute in protecting lives and property. The military also urged members of the public to continue supporting ongoing operations by providing timely and credible intelligence to security agencies.
