Troops of Sector 1, Operation Enduring Peace (OPEP), in collaboration with personnel of the Nigeria Police Force and local vigilantes, have launched a rescue operation following the abduction of two civilians by suspected kidnappers in Jos South Local Government Area of Plateau State.
Intelligence sources disclosed that the attack occurred at about 11:10 p.m. on Sunday, July 26, in Gura Top community, where armed assailants stormed the area and abducted two residents.
According to the sources, troops responded swiftly to a distress call alongside police officers and vigilante members. However, by the time security personnel arrived at the scene, the kidnappers had already escaped with the victims.
Three other civilians sustained injuries during the attack and were immediately evacuated to the Nigerian Air Force Hospital in Jos, where they are currently receiving medical treatment.
Security forces have since launched an intensive manhunt for the abductors, with efforts underway to ensure the safe rescue of the victims. Investigations into the incident are ongoing.
In a separate operation, troops of Sector 8, Operation Enduring Peace, working with members of the Civilian Joint Task Force (CJTF), arrested a suspected cattle rustler during a security operation in Gesin Village, Mangu Local Government Area of Plateau State.
The suspect was apprehended at about 10:15 p.m. on July 26 and, during preliminary interrogation, reportedly confessed to participating in the theft of cattle belonging to the Village Head of Baban Rigi on July 19.
The suspect remains in military custody and is expected to undergo further investigation before being handed over to the appropriate authorities for prosecution.
Security sources said the arrest is part of ongoing operations by Operation Enduring Peace to combat cattle rustling, kidnapping, and other criminal activities across Plateau State. Efforts are also ongoing to identify and apprehend other members of the suspected rustling syndicate.
