Troops of the 65 Battalion have intercepted a truck conveying a large consignment of suspected illicit drugs along the Lagos–Calabar Coastal Road, dealing another blow to drug trafficking activities in the country.
The operation, carried out on 9 July 2026, followed actionable intelligence received from a credible source. Acting swiftly on the information, the troops intercepted the vehicle and arrested its driver.
According to a statement released over the weekend, preliminary investigations revealed that the illicit consignment was being transported to the Berger area of Lagos State. However, the suspect could not provide credible information regarding the owner or intended recipient of the drugs.
In line with established procedures, the 65 Battalion handed over the suspect and the recovered drugs to the National Drug Law Enforcement Agency (NDLEA), Lagos State Command, for further investigation and possible prosecution. The handover was supervised by the Commanding Officer of the Battalion, Lieutenant Colonel S. Adeojo.
The General Officer Commanding (GOC) 81 Division, Major General Adebayo Babalola, commended the troops for their vigilance, professionalism, and operational effectiveness in carrying out the intelligence-led operation.
He charged personnel to sustain the momentum in combating criminal activities, emphasizing the need to maintain pressure on drug traffickers and other criminal elements operating within the 81 Division’s area of responsibility.
The interception underscores the Nigerian Army’s continued collaboration with other security and law enforcement agencies to disrupt criminal networks and enhance public safety.
