The Akwa Ibom State Command of the Nigeria Police Force has officially launched a 24-day school sensitisation campaign on the War Against Drug Abuse, aimed at promoting drug-free lifestyles and positive values among students across the state.

The campaign was flagged off by the Commissioner of Police, Akwa Ibom State Command, CP Baba Mohammed Azare, fsi, under the Police Campaign Against Cultism and Other Vices (POCACOV), in collaboration with the Safe School Environment Ambassadors.

The initiative will be implemented in secondary schools and technical colleges across Akwa Ibom State, focusing on reorienting young people against drug abuse while promoting peace, discipline, responsible citizenship, and sustainable development.

Speaking at the flag-off ceremony, the POCACOV Coordinator described the programme as both timely and strategic, emphasising that schools are not only centres for academic learning but also institutions where values, character, and leadership are nurtured.

The coordinator noted that exposing students to the dangers of drug abuse and other social vices at an early stage would help build a generation of responsible citizens capable of making informed and positive life choices.

POCACOV reaffirmed its commitment to supporting initiatives that strengthen preventive policing through community engagement, stressing that taking anti-drug awareness campaigns directly to schools represents a long-term investment in the future of society.

The campaign is expected to run for 24 days, reaching students in various educational institutions across Akwa Ibom State with advocacy sessions, interactive engagements, and educational activities designed to discourage drug abuse and other harmful behaviours.
