Troops of the Joint Task Force North West, Operation FANSAN YAMMA (JTF NW OPFY), have recorded significant operational successes across Katsina and Zamfara States, repelling coordinated terrorist attacks, rescuing an abducted district head, and recovering arms, ammunition, and other combat equipment.

The operations, conducted on July 2, 2026, highlighted the Joint Task Force’s sustained offensive against terrorist elements and its commitment to protecting communities across the North-West.

According to a statement by the Media Information Officer of Operation FANSAN YAMMA, Lieutenant Colonel Aliyu Danja, troops of Sector 2 on fighting patrol engaged terrorists between Amara and Chakau Junction in Danmusa Local Government Area of Katsina State after the criminals opened fire on the advancing troops. The soldiers responded with superior firepower, forcing the terrorists to flee while abandoning one AK-47 rifle, a loaded magazine containing eight rounds of ammunition, and two motorcycles.

In another operation around Sabon Garin and Dantakeri villages in Dutsinma Local Government Area, troops, supported by other security agencies and local vigilantes, swiftly responded to a terrorist attack, neutralizing one of the assailants during the exchange of fire.

The troops also recorded a major breakthrough in Malumfashi Local Government Area, where they rescued the abducted District Head of Farin Hawa, Mr. Mubarak Sharin. The district head had been kidnapped by terrorists riding on several motorcycles before the pursuing troops intercepted the fleeing criminals, neutralized one terrorist, disrupted the abduction, and secured the victim’s safe rescue.

In neighbouring Zamfara State, troops successfully repelled a terrorist assault on their location at Dauran in Bukkuyum Local Government Area. Reinforced by a fighting patrol, the soldiers forced the attackers to retreat and recovered one AK-47 rifle, four magazines, thirty-five rounds of ammunition, a bandolier, and a hydration pack.

Operation FANSAN YAMMA commended the courage, professionalism, and resilience displayed by its personnel, as well as the support of collaborating security agencies and local vigilantes. The Joint Task Force reaffirmed its resolve to sustain offensive operations against terrorist groups while strengthening collaboration with communities to safeguard lives and property across the North-West.
