The Nigerian Navy has intensified its crackdown on illicit drug trafficking with a successful joint operation alongside the National Drug Law Enforcement Agency (NDLEA), leading to the disruption of a drug distribution network in parts of Warri, Delta State.
In a statement, the Director of Naval Information, Navy Captain Abiodun Folorunsho, said the operation was carried out by personnel of Nigerian Navy Ship (NNS) DELTA in collaboration with NDLEA operatives as part of ongoing efforts to rid the Navy’s area of responsibility of criminal activities linked to illicit drug trafficking.
According to the statement, the joint task team conducted intelligence-driven raids across the Urchie, Uvwiamuge, Orthokpor, and Usiefrun areas of Warri, resulting in the arrest of one suspect and the seizure of various illicit substances, including Molly, Cannabis, and Skuruchi.
The Navy said the operation dealt a significant blow to the activities of local drug traffickers and reaffirmed the effectiveness of inter-agency collaboration in tackling crimes that threaten public safety and national security.
It noted that the successful operation highlights the growing synergy between the Nigerian Navy and the NDLEA in addressing the link between illicit drug trafficking and other criminal activities.
The Nigerian Navy reiterated its commitment to strengthening cooperation with relevant security and law enforcement agencies while sustaining intelligence-led operations to deny criminal elements the freedom to operate and safeguard peace, security, and lawful economic activities within its area of responsibility.
