The Nigerian Army has announced significant investments in soldiers’ welfare, accommodation and manpower development as part of ongoing reforms aimed at strengthening operational readiness.

Chief of Army Staff, Lt.-Gen. Waidi Shaibu, disclosed this during the closing ceremony of the Nigerian Army Day Celebration (NADCEL) 2026 in Port Harcourt.

He said improving the welfare of officers and soldiers remains a top priority for the current Army leadership, noting that several infrastructure projects are already underway across the country.

Among the key projects, Shaibu highlighted the construction of the second phase of the Bola Ahmed Tinubu Barracks as well as extensive renovation of existing barracks in formations nationwide.

He also announced that the new Depot Nigerian Army at Amasiri-Edda would soon be commissioned, describing the facility as a strategic investment designed to address manpower requirements while improving the quality of recruit training.

According to the Army Chief, the projects reflect the Federal Government’s commitment to strengthening the institution and enhancing the living and working conditions of military personnel.

He expressed appreciation to President Bola Tinubu, the National Assembly, the Minister of Defence, the Minister of State for Defence and state governments for supporting the Army’s operational and infrastructural needs.

Shaibu also acknowledged the contributions of the Nigerian Navy, Nigerian Air Force and other security agencies, saying improved inter-agency collaboration has contributed significantly to recent operational successes across different theatres.

The COAS assured Nigerians that recently acquired military platforms and combat support assets would be effectively deployed to confront the country’s security challenges.

He further stated that the Army leadership remains committed to continuous training, improved administration and better welfare policies aimed at maintaining a highly motivated and combat-ready force.
