The Defence Intelligence Agency (DIA) has confirmed the death of one of its senior officers, Colonel Abdulsalam Abdulrazak Ude, who was killed in a shooting incident at his residence in the Federal Capital Territory, describing the attack as a tragic loss to the nation’s intelligence and security community.

In a press statement, the Agency disclosed that the incident occurred at about 10:45 p.m. on Tuesday, July 27, 2026, at Phase 5 of the Army Housing Estate in Kurudu, Abuja, when unidentified assailants attacked the senior military officer at his residence.

The DIA expressed profound sorrow over the loss, describing the late Colonel Ude as a dedicated, highly professional and committed officer who served Nigeria with distinction throughout his military career.

According to the Agency, Colonel Ude demonstrated exceptional patriotism and unwavering commitment to the defence and security of the Federal Republic of Nigeria, making significant contributions to the country’s intelligence operations and national security architecture.

The Agency noted that his untimely death represents a painful loss not only to the Defence Intelligence Agency but also to the Armed Forces of Nigeria and the nation as a whole.

Following the incident, security and law enforcement agencies have launched a comprehensive investigation aimed at uncovering the circumstances surrounding the attack. Authorities are also working to identify, apprehend and prosecute those responsible for the killing.

The DIA assured the public that it is collaborating closely with relevant security agencies to ensure that the investigation is thorough and that justice is served.

Reaffirming its commitment to national security, the Agency stressed that it remains steadfast in the discharge of its constitutional responsibilities despite the tragic loss of one of its officers.

The Agency further assured Nigerians that it would continue working with all relevant security institutions to strengthen intelligence operations and ensure that criminal elements responsible for the attack are brought to justice.

The Defence Intelligence Agency extended its heartfelt condolences to the family of the late Colonel Abdulsalam Abdulrazak Ude, his colleagues, friends and the entire Armed Forces of Nigeria, praying for the peaceful repose of his soul and strength for those he left behind.

The killing of the senior intelligence officer has once again highlighted the security concerns surrounding attacks on security personnel, even within residential estates, as authorities intensify efforts to unravel the motive behind the incident and bring the perpetrators to book.
