The Independent Corrupt Practices and Other Related Offences Commission (ICPC) on Monday interrogated the Chief of Staff to President Bola Tinubu, Femi Gbajabiamila, as part of its ongoing investigation into the controversial Presidential Foreign Investment Promotion Council (PFIPC), an agency alleged to have been fraudulently created.
Gbajabiamila honoured the commission’s invitation on Monday and was interrogated at the ICPC headquarters in Abuja.
His lawyer, Jiti Ogunye, confirmed the development in a statement, saying the presidential aide fully cooperated with investigators in line with the directive of President Bola Tinubu.
According to Ogunye, Gbajabiamila arrived at the ICPC headquarters at about 3:00 p.m., where he gave his testimony and responded to questions relating to the ongoing investigation before returning to his official duties.
“In full cooperation with the ICPC acting as directed by the President of Nigeria, I hereby confirm that my client, Femi Gbajabiamila, Chief of Staff to the President of Nigeria, responded to the invitation of the Independent Corrupt Practices Commission (ICPC) and appeared at about 15:00hrs on Monday, July 20, 2026, as part of the ongoing investigation into the activities of the ‘PFIPC’ fake agency, among others,” Ogunye said.
He added that his client had completed the interview and returned to his duty post.
The interrogation comes weeks after President Tinubu, on July 2, ordered the ICPC to carry out a comprehensive investigation into the PFIPC controversy following allegations surrounding the existence and operations of the purported agency.
Presidential spokesman Bayo Onanuga had announced that the President directed the anti-corruption commission to conclude its investigation and submit a comprehensive report within 30 days.
The ICPC investigation into the PFIPC is expected to determine the circumstances surrounding the establishment of the controversial body and identify individuals who may have played roles in its activities.
