Bauchi Police Arrest Three Over Fatal Naming Ceremony Clash in Kirfi

The Bauchi State Police Command has arrested three suspects over the alleged killing of a 27-year-old man during a violent clash at a naming ceremony in Kirfi Local Government Area of the state.

According to a statement issued on Wednesday by the Police Public Relations Officer, SP Nafiu Habib, the suspects are being investigated for criminal conspiracy, disturbance of public peace, and culpable homicide.

The incident was reported to the Kirfi Police Division by the Officer in Charge of the Bara Police Outpost following a complaint lodged by an 80-year-old resident of Dosi Hamlet.

Police said the violence occurred on June 25, 2026, at about 6:30 p.m. during a naming ceremony in Dosi Hamlet, Bara Village, when a misunderstanding erupted between youths from Tudun Sullubawa Hamlet and Dosi Hamlet.

During the confrontation, 27-year-old Sani Abacha Alhaji Jabbi of Dosi Hamlet was allegedly attacked with cutlasses by youths from Tudun Sullubawa Hamlet, leaving him with severe injuries.

The victim was rushed to the Federal Medical Centre, Gombe, where he later died while receiving treatment and was certified dead by a medical doctor.

Police operatives visited the scene, documented the incident, and launched an investigation that led to the arrest of three suspects identified as Kano Alhaji Malam, 18; Ali Alhaji Malam, 17; and Shehu Alhaji Malam, 16, all from Tudun Sullubawa Hamlet.

The deceased was subsequently buried by his family in accordance with Islamic rites.

The Command said preliminary investigations have been concluded and the case has been transferred to the State Criminal Investigation Department (SCID), Bauchi, for further investigation and prosecution.

Reacting to the incident, the Commissioner of Police, Bauchi State Command, CP Sani-Omolori Aliyu, condemned the killing and warned against the use of violence to resolve disputes during social gatherings.

He urged community and youth leaders to encourage dialogue, tolerance, and peaceful coexistence to foster lasting peace and security across Bauchi State.
