Troops of 25 Brigade have foiled an attempted attack by suspected ISWAP terrorists targeting a Civilian Joint Task Force (CJTF) checkpoint in Damboa Local Government Area of Borno State.
Military sources said the incident occurred at about 10:30 p.m. on June 18 when troops, positioned in an ambush location, received intelligence on the movement of an unspecified number of terrorists on foot and motorcycles infiltrating through the Timbuktu Triangle axis.
The suspected terrorists were reportedly attempting to attack a CJTF checkpoint located near the Aburi Internally Displaced Persons (IDP) camp in Damboa town.
During the exchange, a civilian sustained gunshot injuries from a stray bullet fired by the attackers and was immediately evacuated to Damboa General Hospital for medical treatment.
Following the incident, troops conducted a follow-up exploitation operation along the withdrawal routes of the attackers; however, no further contact was made.
Security sources said the area has since been stabilised, with enhanced patrols and surveillance ongoing to prevent further incursions.
