Troops of Operation Hadin Kai, in collaboration with local vigilance groups, have conducted a fighting and clearance patrol  in parts of Kukawa Local Government Area of Borno State following intelligence reports fleeing  movement of ISWAP elements in the area.

Military sources disclosed that the patrol was led by senior officers and launched on June 1 as part of ongoing efforts to deny terrorist groups freedom of action and disrupt their activities across the North-East theatre.

According to the sources, troops initially encountered farmers who were preparing for the planting season in surrounding bush areas. The civilians reportedly informed the patrol team that suspected insurgents had recently passed through the area in search of food and individuals believed to have escaped from military pressure in nearby locations.

The patrol proceeded further towards Jemmu village and adjoining communities when troops made contact with a suspected Boko Haram lookout moving on a motorcycle.

The sources said the suspect, on sighting the troops, fled towards the Alagarno axis, prompting a pursuit operation. However, he could not be apprehended.

Following the brief encounter, troops recovered one AK-47 magazine loaded with three rounds of ammunition.

The patrol continued exploitation of the general area, but no further contact with insurgents was made.

Military authorities said the operation was part of sustained clearance efforts aimed at weakening terrorist networks and restoring stability in affected communities.

They added that troops returned safely to base after completing the mission.
