The Anambra State Police Command has arrested the biological parents of twin infants whose lifeless bodies were discovered in a drainage channel in Okpoko, Ogbaru Local Government Area of the state.
According to a statement issued on Saturday by the Police Public Relations Officer, SP Tochukwu Ikenga, operatives attached to the Okpoko Divisional Police Headquarters responded swiftly after receiving information about the discovery of the deceased infants along Cooperative Street, Nwokedi, Okpoko, in the early hours of June 21, 2026.
The police immediately secured the scene, collected critical evidence, and launched an investigation into the incident.
Preliminary findings led to the identification and arrest of the biological parents of the twins. The suspects are currently in police custody and are assisting investigators in uncovering the circumstances surrounding the tragic incident.
Reacting to the development, the Commissioner of Police in Anambra State, CP Ikioye Orutugu, described the incident as a disturbing case of “man’s inhumanity to man” and a grave violation of the sanctity of human life.
He commended the operatives for their prompt response and professionalism, which resulted in the swift arrest of the suspects shortly after the report was made.
“The discovery of the lifeless twin infants is both heartbreaking and unacceptable. Every child deserves protection, care, and the opportunity to live,” the Commissioner stated.
CP Orutugu further assured residents that the Command remains committed to ensuring justice, stressing that anyone found culpable would face the full weight of the law.
The police said investigations are ongoing and promised to provide further updates as the case progresses.
