The Chairman of the Nigeria Union of Journalists (NUJ), FCT Council, Comrade Grace Ike, has been honoured with the 2026 Humanitarian and Service Award by the Laity Council of All Saints Catholic Church in recognition of her outstanding contributions to journalism and humanitarian service.
The award was presented during a special church service attended by congregants who applauded her commitment to professional excellence, community development, and service to humanity.
Speaking after receiving the honour in absentia, Comrade Ike expressed gratitude to God and dedicated the award to members of the NUJ FCT Council, describing the recognition as both humbling and inspiring.
“I thank the organisers for recognising my efforts and for fishing me out despite my distance. I do not take this honour lightly,” she said.
She noted that the recognition transcends personal achievement, describing it as a call to greater service.
“This is not just an award; it is an invitation to do more. I pledge to continue serving humanity and advancing the cause of journalism with humility and dedication through the help of God,” she added.
Comrade Ike emphasized the importance of selfless service and reaffirmed her commitment to promoting ethical journalism while supporting initiatives that positively impact society.
The award adds to the growing list of accolades bestowed on the veteran journalist in recognition of her leadership, professional accomplishments, and dedication to humanitarian causes.
The honour was received on her behalf by the Auditor of the NUJ FCT Council, Comrade Rosemary Ukoko-Tega.
The organisers described Comrade Ike as a worthy recipient whose contributions have continued to inspire colleagues, uplift communities, and advance the ideals of responsible journalism and service to humanity.
