The Defence Headquarters (DHQ) has dismissed as fake a video circulating on social media that falsely portrays the Chief of Defence Staff (CDS), General Olufemi Oluyede and in some instances attempts to misrepresent the individual featured as the Chief of Army Staff, Lieutenant General Olufemi Oluyede.

In a statement issued on Tuesday, the Director of Defence Information, Major General Samaila Uba, described the video as fabricated, misleading and entirely unrelated to any official communication, statement or engagement involving the military leadership. He said the content was deliberately created to misinform the public and generate confusion regarding the activities and leadership of the Armed Forces of Nigeria.

According to the Defence Headquarters, preliminary assessments revealed clear signs of digital manipulation powered by Artificial Intelligence (AI). The military urged Nigerians to disregard the video and avoid sharing unverified military-related content.

DHQ also cautioned social media influencers, bloggers and content creators against amplifying false information for online engagement, warning that such actions could undermine public confidence and negatively affect national security.

The Armed Forces of Nigeria reaffirmed its commitment to safeguarding the nation’s sovereignty, peace and security while urging the public to verify information through official military communication channels before dissemination.
