The Kwara State Police Command has intensified its crackdown on cultism with the arrest of two suspected cult members and the recovery of a locally fabricated Beretta pistol during intelligence-led operations in Ilorin metropolis.
According to the Police Public Relations Officer, SP Adetoun Ejire-Adeyemi, the operation was carried out following credible intelligence and sustained surveillance by operatives of the Command.
The police arrested 33-year-old Abdullahi Jimoh Omotoho, alleged to be a member of the notorious Klans-Avea cult group operating within Ilorin. A locally fabricated Beretta pistol was recovered from him during the operation.
Further intelligence gathered during the investigation led to the arrest of another suspect, Abdullahi Kareem Kawu, popularly known as “B-Red,” who is suspected to be a member of the Eiye Confraternity. Police said the suspect is assisting investigators as efforts continue to dismantle cult-related criminal networks across the state.
The Command said the arrests form part of its sustained offensive against cultism, violent crimes and other threats to public safety. Preliminary investigations have yielded valuable intelligence on the activities of criminal gangs operating within Ilorin, while efforts are ongoing to identify and apprehend other members of the groups.
Commending the professionalism and vigilance of the operatives involved, the Commissioner of Police, Kwara State Command, CP Ojo Adekimi, reaffirmed the Command’s commitment to intelligence-led policing and proactive crime-fighting strategies aimed at ensuring that criminal elements have no safe haven anywhere in the state.
The police commissioner also warned individuals involved in cultism and other violent crimes to abandon such activities or face the full weight of the law. He urged residents to continue supporting security agencies by providing timely and credible information to aid efforts to maintain peace and security across Kwara State.
The suspects remain in police custody and will be charged to court upon the conclusion of investigations.
