The Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) has presented Certificates of Return to candidates who emerged victorious in the bye-elections conducted on June 20, 2026, across Rivers, Enugu, Nasarawa, Ondo, and Kano States.
SpyeTV News reports that the certificates were presented on behalf of the Chairman of INEC, Prof. Joash Amupitan, SAN, by the Supervising National Commissioner for Rivers State, Mrs. May Agbamuche-Mbu, during a ceremony held at the Commission’s headquarters.
Addressing the newly elected representatives, Mrs. Agbamuche-Mbu congratulated them on their electoral victories and urged them to justify the confidence reposed in them by their constituents through quality representation and dedicated service.
She emphasized that the true test of leadership begins after the election, noting that the most important responsibility of the elected officials is to effectively represent the interests and aspirations of the people who entrusted them with their mandates.
Mrs. Agbamuche-Mbu further disclosed that Certificates of Return would also be presented to winners of the Zuru State Constituency election in Kebbi State and the Ekiti State Governorship Election.
The presentation ceremony featured National Commissioners representing the various constituencies, who formally handed over the certificates to the successful candidates, officially affirming their status as duly elected representatives following the conduct of the elections.
The issuance of Certificates of Return marks the final stage in the electoral process and formally authorizes the elected officials to assume their respective offices in accordance with the law.
