Troops of the 6 Brigade Nigerian Army/Sector 3 Operation Whirl Stroke have neutralised two suspected armed bandits and recovered an AK-47 rifle during a tactical operation in Taraba State.
The operation was carried out on Saturday, 24 May 2026, following credible intelligence reports of gunshots near the “Welcome to Donga” signpost in Akate District of Donga Local Government Area.
According to the Acting Assistant Director, Army Public Relations, 6 Brigade Nigerian Army, Lieutenant Umar Muhammad, troops swiftly mobilised to the area and launched a tactical raid on the suspected hideout.
He explained that upon arrival, the troops encountered the suspected criminals and engaged them in a gun duel, leading to the neutralisation of two of the assailants.
Items recovered during the operation included one AK-47 rifle, five rounds of 7.62mm special ammunition, two AK-47 magazines, two mobile phones and other personal belongings.
Reacting to the successful operation, the Commander, 6 Brigade Nigerian Army/Sector 3 Operation Whirl Stroke, Brigadier General Chukwuemeka Michael Akaliro, commended the troops for their professionalism and swift response.
He urged the soldiers to sustain the operational momentum in line with the directive of the Chief of Army Staff to rid Taraba State of criminal elements and other security threats.
The brigade commander also stated that the Army’s reward and sanction policy would apply to the troops involved in the operation, while reassuring residents of the state that the military remains committed to restoring lasting peace and security.
Brigadier General Akaliro further assured citizens that troops would continue to maintain pressure on criminal elements until all threats to peace and stability across the state are completely eliminated.
