The Theatre Commander of Operation HADIN KAI (OPHK), Major General Abdulsalam Abubakar, has conducted a three-day operational assessment of Sector 4 in Adamawa State, reaffirming the military’s commitment to strengthening security across the North-East.
The visit, held from April 30 to May 2, 2026, also reinforced collaboration between the Joint Task Force and the Adamawa State Government aimed at enhancing response mechanisms and safeguarding lives and property in the region.
During a courtesy visit to the Government House in Yola, the Adamawa State Governor, Ahmadu Umaru Fintiri, represented by his deputy, Professor Kaletapwa George Farauta, commended the military for its sustained efforts despite recent security challenges. She reiterated the state government’s commitment to supporting security operations through investments in infrastructure, technology, and human capital development.
Farauta highlighted the importance of community-based security actors, including vigilantes, hunters, and forest guards, describing them as critical partners in intelligence gathering and maintaining peace at the grassroots level.
In his remarks, Major General Abubakar said the assessment was aimed at addressing emerging threats and strengthening ongoing operations. He noted that Sector 4, established in August 2025, was designed to bridge security gaps between Southern Borno and Northern Adamawa and currently covers 10 local government areas across about 16,000 square kilometres.
He explained that due to the vast and complex terrain, the military has adopted a multi-layered strategy combining troop deployment, technology-driven surveillance, and community engagement.
The Theatre Commander disclosed that Defence and Army Headquarters have continued to support operations through the deployment of special forces, provision of combat enablers, and training of local security groups to act as first responders in remote communities.
He also revealed that additional military formations have been approved by the Chief of Army Staff, Lieutenant General Waidi Shaibu, to further strengthen security presence in the state.
Addressing troops and local security stakeholders in Mubi and Tella Balla, Gombi Local Government Area, Abubakar urged heightened vigilance, warning that intensified offensives in other sectors could push insurgents into new areas.
He stressed the need to protect vulnerable communities, enhance intelligence gathering, and identify collaborators aiding terrorist elements.
The visit featured inspection of quarter guards, operational briefings, interactive sessions with troops, and engagements with local security actors. It also included the signing of the visitors’ register and exchange of souvenirs.
The assessment forms part of ongoing efforts by Operation HADIN KAI to reassess and reinforce security strategies aimed at achieving lasting peace and stability in the North-East.
