The Nigerian Union of Journalists (NUJ), Federal Capital Territory (FCT) Council, has honoured the Assistant Inspector-General of Police in charge of Zone 2 Command, Moshood Olohundare Jimoh, with the Crime Fighter of the Year award in recognition of his intelligence-led policing strategy and contributions to crime reduction in Lagos and Ogun states.
The award was presented during the Annual Press Week of the NUJ FCT Council held in Abuja and attended by the NUJ President, Alhassan Yahaya Abdul, and the immediate past president, Chris Isiguzo.
The honour comes months after AIG Jimoh was named the 2025 Security Officer of the Year at the Security and Emergency Management Awards (SAEMA), further highlighting recognition for his policing model centred on intelligence gathering, surveillance operations and rapid-response interventions.
Jimoh, who previously served as Commissioner of Police in Lagos State before his elevation to oversee Lagos and Ogun states as AIG, was commended for leading operations targeting violent crimes and strengthening community-oriented policing across the region.
Speaking on behalf of the award recipients, the senior police officer described journalists as vital partners in nation-building, security management and public accountability.
“The media remains the mirror that reflects our activities. Journalists are not enemies when they publish critical reports. Constructive criticism often serves as a wake-up call for institutions and public officers,” he said.
Jimoh, who also served as Police Public Relations Officer in the FCT and later as Force Public Relations Officer, noted that his longstanding relationship with the NUJ FCT Council played a significant role in shaping his career in policing and public communication.
He reaffirmed the commitment of the Nigeria Police Force under the leadership of the Inspector-General of Police, Olatunji Rilwan Disu, to community-oriented and people-centred policing.
The AIG also commended the NUJ FCT Council for its patriotism, professionalism and continued support for the Nigeria Police Force, noting that the police would continue to rely on the media as a strategic bridge between law enforcement agencies and the public in promoting effective policing and public trust.
