The Headquarters Joint Task Force (North East), Operation HADIN KAI, has assured residents of the North East of adequate security arrangements ahead of the 2026 Eid El Kabir celebrations, while urging members of the public to remain vigilant and cooperate with security agencies during the festive period.

In a statement issued by the Media Information Officer of Operation HADIN KAI, Lieutenant Colonel Sani Uba, the Theatre Command extended felicitations to Muslim faithful ahead of the Eid El Kabir 1447AH celebrations scheduled for Wednesday, 28 May 2026, and expressed commitment to ensuring peaceful celebrations across the region.

The Command disclosed that comprehensive security measures had already been activated across the theatre of operations to safeguard lives and property before, during and after the celebrations.

According to the statement, credible intelligence indicated that remnant elements of Boko Haram Terrorists (BHT) and the Islamic State West Africa Province (ISWAP) might attempt isolated attacks on civilian targets during the festive period using suicide bombers and improvised explosive devices, particularly in densely populated locations.

However, the military assured residents that the threats had been anticipated and appropriate countermeasures put in place.

The statement revealed that troops had been forward-deployed to vulnerable and critical locations across all sectors, while surveillance and Intelligence, Surveillance and Reconnaissance (ISR) assets had been fully activated. It added that patrols had also been intensified in collaboration with sister security agencies, the Civilian Joint Task Force (CJTF), and community vigilance groups to forestall any security breach.

Operation HADIN KAI advised residents to conduct Eid prayers and festivities close to their homes and familiar neighbourhoods, while avoiding large gatherings where possible.

The Command also urged the public to remain vigilant in crowded places such as markets, motor parks, banking halls and prayer grounds, and to promptly report suspicious persons, unattended objects or unusual movements to security agencies.

Residents were further encouraged to cooperate with security personnel during patrols and screening operations, avoid unnecessary movement especially at night, and refrain from spreading unverified information capable of causing panic.

The Theatre Command called on traditional rulers, religious leaders, media organisations and community stakeholders to support ongoing security efforts by sensitising their communities and providing credible information to security agencies.

Operation HADIN KAI reassured the people of the North East that troops remained fully prepared and committed to denying terrorists any freedom of action, while ensuring that Eid El Kabir celebrations are conducted in peace, safety and dignity across the region.
