The Federal Government of Nigeria and the Czech Republic have reaffirmed their commitment to deepening bilateral relations through enhanced cooperation in trade, agriculture, technology transfer, industrialisation, and sustainable development.

This was disclosed in a statement issued by the Spokesperson of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, Kimiebi Imomotimi Ebienfa, following a meeting between the Honourable Minister of Foreign Affairs, Bianca Odumegwu-Ojukwu, and the Ambassador of the Czech Republic to Nigeria, Tomas Vyprachticky, in Abuja on Tuesday.

During the meeting, Ambassador Vyprachticky congratulated the Minister on her appointment and conveyed the goodwill of the Czech Government towards continued diplomatic engagement with Nigeria.

The Czech envoy reiterated his country’s readiness to expand cooperation with Nigeria in critical sectors including agriculture, healthcare, renewable energy, education, investment, industrialisation, innovation, and technical cooperation.

He described Nigeria as a strategic partner with significant political and economic potential in Sub-Saharan Africa, noting that the Czech Embassy in Abuja remains committed to promoting government-to-government and business-to-business partnerships for mutually beneficial economic growth.

Officials of the Czech Embassy also highlighted ongoing development and commercial projects across several Nigerian states, including Taraba, Delta, Edo, Ondo, Bauchi, Plateau, Lagos, Rivers, and Zamfara.

Particular reference was made to the delivery of nearly 1,000 specially designed tractors and agricultural equipment to Taraba State in 2024. The equipment, jointly designed by Nigerian and Czech engineers, was aimed at boosting mechanised farming and improving agricultural productivity.

In her remarks, Ambassador Odumegwu-Ojukwu recalled the longstanding relationship between Nigeria and the former Czechoslovakia, especially in the areas of industrialisation, educational exchange programmes, machinery supply, and technical cooperation.

She commended the Czech Republic for its developmental support to Nigeria and stressed the importance of institutionalising bilateral engagements through stronger coordination mechanisms.

The Minister proposed the revitalisation of existing bilateral frameworks, including the establishment of a Joint Commission mechanism to coordinate cooperation in strategic sectors such as defence, trade, education, agriculture, technology, and industrial development.

Both countries expressed satisfaction with the steady progress in Nigeria–Czech Republic relations and reaffirmed their commitment to strengthening diplomatic ties and expanding cooperation in areas of mutual interest.
