The National Drug Law Enforcement Agency (NDLEA) has intercepted cocaine and opioid consignments concealed in carton walls and bound for the United Kingdom and Australia, while also destroying 65,000 kilograms of skunk in separate operations across Delta State.
NDLEA spokesperson, Femi Babafemi, disclosed in a statement that the drug consignments were intercepted on Friday, May 15, 2026, during the examination of export shipments at a courier company in Lagos.
According to him, operatives recovered 170 grams of cocaine hidden inside the walls of a carton containing clothes destined for Australia. Another carton heading to the United Kingdom was found to contain 200 ampoules of pentazocine injection, 1,100 capsules of tramadol, and 100 ampoules of promethazine injection concealed within its walls.
In Delta State, NDLEA operatives raided Ejeonu village in Ukwuani Local Government Area on Sunday, May 10, where they destroyed 27,500 kilograms of skunk cultivated on 11 hectares of farmland. Officers also recovered 22.9 kilograms of the substance, while a 52-year-old suspect, Ifeanyichukwu Peter, was arrested in a follow-up operation at Obiaruku.
A separate operation in Orogun village, Ughelli North LGA, on Tuesday, May 12, led to the destruction of another 37,500 kilograms of skunk spread across 15 hectares of farmland. Operatives recovered 55.4 kilograms of the substance and arrested a 30-year-old suspect, Godwin Vincent Osadera.
The agency said the two operations, conducted with support from the military, resulted in the destruction of a total of 65,000 kilograms of skunk.
In Kaduna State, NDLEA operatives recovered 361 kilograms of skunk during a raid at Dan Magaji area of Zaria town on Wednesday, May 13, and arrested a 42-year-old suspect identified as Husaini Suleiman.
The agency also intercepted 1,989 rounds of military-grade 7.62mm ammunition concealed inside bags of garri along the Abuja-Kaduna highway on Tuesday, May 12. Babafemi said a 35-year-old suspect, Abdullahi Hassan, was arrested while transporting the ammunition, adding that both the suspect and exhibits had been transferred to another security agency for further investigation.
In the Federal Capital Territory, operatives arrested a 29-year-old businessman, Ogadi Peter, who allegedly specialised in producing drug-laced cakes and cookies for parties and social gatherings.
Babafemi said the suspect was arrested at his residence in the Life Camp area of Abuja on Monday, May 11, following intelligence reports. Officers reportedly recovered 800 grams of skunk and 2.7 kilograms of drug-laced cookies from the premises.
Elsewhere, NDLEA operatives in Ogun State arrested a suspect, Aliyu Sani, with 181 kilograms of skunk during a raid in the Ogere area on Wednesday, May 13.
In Taraba State, a 27-year-old suspect, Sufiyanu Mohammed Misa, was apprehended along Zaki-Biam Road in Wukari LGA with 105,850 pills of opioids, including tramadol, diazepam, and exol-5.
In Oyo State, two suspects — Adeleke Olamide Aliyah, 20, and Aloba Abdulazeez, 25 — were arrested in Saki town on Thursday, May 14, in connection with the seizure of 99 litres of skuchies.
NDLEA officers also destroyed 1,388.4 kilograms of skunk on two farms during a raid on Ago forest in Orhionmwon Local Government Area of Edo State on Friday, May 15.
In Kano State, operatives recovered 1.2 kilograms of tramaking 225mg pills concealed inside a 25-litre jerry can of palm oil at Kofar Ruwa motor park on Monday, May 11. Another suspect, Aminu Isa, 35, was arrested the same day in the Sabuwar Sharada area with 30.5 kilograms of skunk.
The agency added that its War Against Drug Abuse (WADA) sensitisation campaign continued across schools nationwide, including institutions in Oyo, Niger, Lagos, Katsina, Ekiti, and Kano states.
Chairman and Chief Executive Officer of NDLEA, Brig.-Gen. Mohamed Buba Marwa (retd.), commended officers involved in the operations and praised commands nationwide for maintaining a balance between drug supply reduction and drug demand reduction efforts.
