The Nigeria Association of Women Journalists (NAWOJ), FCT Chapter, has congratulated Ms. Adedayo Benjamin Laniyi on her appointment as the Director-General/Chief Executive Officer of the Maryam Babangida National Centre for Women Development.

The association also congratulated the newly constituted Governing Council of the Centre, led by Princess Joan Jummai Idonije, alongside members including Lois Auta, Jamila Sarki, Aisha Baiyee, Jumoke Okoya-Thomas, and Princess Anne Agom-Eze.

In a statement signed by the Chairperson of NAWOJ FCT Chapter, Bassey Ita Ikpang, the association described the appointments as timely and inspiring for women and girls in the Federal Capital Territory and across Nigeria.

NAWOJ FCT said the appointments reflect renewed commitment to inclusive leadership, women empowerment, gender advancement, and the strengthening of institutions dedicated to the protection and development of women’s rights and opportunities.

The association expressed confidence that Laniyi’s experience, leadership qualities, and dedication would reposition the Centre for greater impact, especially among grassroots women.

“As women journalists and advocates, we are particularly excited about the possibilities these appointments hold in amplifying the voices of women and girls, promoting gender-sensitive policies, and advancing programmes that will enhance the socio-economic wellbeing of women nationwide,” the statement said.

NAWOJ FCT also expressed readiness to collaborate with the new leadership of the Centre in promoting advocacy, awareness creation, capacity building, and media visibility for issues affecting women and children in the FCT.

The association wished the Director-General and members of the Governing Council a successful tenure, praying for wisdom, strength, and divine guidance as they undertake the national assignment.
