Troops of the Joint Task Force North East, Operation HADIN KAI (OPHK), have foiled a coordinated terrorist attack and arrested three suspected Boko Haram collaborators during sustained counter-terrorism operations across parts of Borno State.
The operations also led to the rescue of kidnapped victims and the surrender of a teenage relative of a terrorist fighter.
In a statement issued by the Media Information Officer, Headquarters Joint Task Force North East Operation HADIN KAI, Lieutenant Colonel Sani Uba, troops deployed at the Forward Operating Base (FOB) Gajibo successfully repelled a major attack launched by suspected Boko Haram/ISWAP terrorists.
According to the statement, the terrorists advanced toward Gajibo town from multiple directions on motorcycles and with support weapons before troops engaged them with heavy firepower, including mortar bombardments.
“The terrorists were forced to withdraw in disarray while troops carried out exploitation of the area and recovered ammunition as well as combat accessories,” the statement said.
No casualty was recorded among troops during the encounter.
In separate operations conducted in collaboration with the Civilian Joint Task Force (CJTF), troops arrested two suspected Boko Haram collaborators in Gubio town. The suspects, identified as cattle rearers, are currently undergoing investigation.
Troops also arrested a suspected terrorist logistics supplier, Umar Ahmadu, in Gwoza following intelligence obtained from a surrendered terrorist associate. Military sources said the suspect allegedly confessed to supplying materials to terrorists on several occasions.
Meanwhile, a 17-year-old family member of a terrorist surrendered to troops along the Gwoza–Limankara axis after escaping from a terrorist enclave in the Mandara Mountains.
Preliminary findings indicated that sustained military offensives and worsening living conditions within the enclave contributed to the surrender.
In another development, troops intercepted and rescued two male victims kidnapped from Mafa town after the victims reportedly escaped from captivity under poor visibility conditions.
The rescued victims have since been handed over for medical evaluation and further assistance.
The military said the operations reflect the sustained pressure being mounted against terrorist elements, their logistics networks, and collaborators across the North-East theatre
