The Chief of the Air Staff, Sunday Kelvin Aneke, has directed intensified intelligence-led air operations against terrorists and bandits, warning that complacency will not be tolerated across the Nigerian Air Force (NAF).
This directive was issued during a strategic operational visit to Bauchi on April 29, 2026, where the CAS addressed personnel at the Headquarters Special Operations Command (HQ SOC) and other co-located units.
In a statement by Ehimen Ejodame, the CAS stressed the importance of aligning operational execution with strategic objectives, describing the Special Operations Command as central to safeguarding Nigeria’s sovereignty.
“We will keep our eyes open so our citizens can sleep with theirs closed,” Aneke said, underscoring the urgency of sustained air power in ongoing military operations.
He reiterated that all missions must remain intelligence-driven, precise, and outcome-focused to ensure measurable success in neutralising security threats. According to him, the NAF must continue to function as a highly professional, mission-ready force working in close synergy with ground troops.
“Every mission must count. Our operations must be intelligence-led and outcome-focused to decisively defeat all threats to national security,” he added.
During the visit, the CAS conducted a comprehensive inspection of operational equipment, infrastructure, and facilities to assess readiness and identify areas requiring improvement. He emphasised that maintaining fully serviceable platforms and systems is critical to sustaining operational effectiveness.
As part of efforts to strengthen civil-military relations, Aneke also paid a courtesy visit to the Emir of Bauchi, Rilwanu Sulaiman Adamu, where he highlighted the importance of community trust in achieving lasting security outcomes. The Emir, in response, commended the Nigerian Air Force for its role in enhancing peace and stability in the state.
The CAS further revealed that the NAF is accelerating the acquisition of modern platforms and advanced intelligence systems, alongside ongoing training programmes to equip personnel with the skills needed to operate sophisticated assets.
Reinforcing his leadership stance, Aneke declared operational readiness non-negotiable and issued a firm warning to commanders.
“Under my leadership, complacency will not be tolerated. Commanders must lead with courage, discipline, and accountability at all times,” he said.
He also assured personnel of improved welfare, including upgraded accommodation and enhanced support infrastructure across NAF formations.
The Air Officer Commanding Special Operations Command, Ahmed Idris, affirmed that the command remains aligned with the CAS’s directives and is sustaining a high operational tempo to deliver decisive airpower in support of national security objectives.
