Troops of Joint Task Force Operation ENDURING PEACE have intensified security operations across Jos metropolis in a determined effort to prevent further escalation of tensions in Jos North and restore calm in Plateau State.

As part of the heightened security response, troops on Friday launched a comprehensive stop-and-search exercise across key areas of Jos. The proactive operation led to the arrest of two suspects and the recovery of dangerous weapons, including a fabricated AK-47 rifle, four rounds of 7.62mm special ammunition, and a pump-action firearm with a cutlass.

The arrests and recoveries were made during targeted operations in identified flashpoints and major transit routes spanning Jos North and Jos South, including Dadinkowa, Old Airport Junction, Tudun Wada, and the State Low-Cost Housing Estate.

In a related development, troops swiftly responded to a distress call over sporadic gunfire in the Yelwa Cattle Market area of Shendam. On arrival, the armed assailants reportedly fled into nearby bushes as security forces mounted pressure on them.

According to Captain Chinonso Polycarp Oteh, Media Information Officer of Joint Task Force Operation ENDURING PEACE, a follow-up sweep of the area led to the discovery of two local residents who had sustained gunshot wounds. The victims were immediately evacuated to a nearby medical facility for urgent treatment.

The military task force reaffirmed its commitment to sustaining a strong security presence across Plateau State, noting that operations will continue with greater intensity until all threats are neutralized and lasting peace is restored in affected communities.
