The Police Service Commission (PSC) has strongly condemned the extrajudicial killing of 28-year-old Mene Ogidi by police officers attached to the Effurun Area Command in Delta State, describing the act as a grave violation of Nigerian laws and international standards.
In a statement issued on Wednesday, the Commission, through its Head of Protocol and Public Affairs, Torty Njoku Kalu, said the incident, which occurred on April 26, 2026, contravenes key legal frameworks, including the Constitution of the Federal Republic of Nigeria (1999 as amended), the Anti-Torture Act 2017, the Administration of Criminal Justice Act 2015, the Nigeria Police Act 2020, and the Nigeria Police Force Regulations 2025, as well as international humanitarian law.
The Commission commended the Commissioner of Police in Delta State for taking swift action, including the suspension and interdiction of officers implicated in the incident, pending the outcome of a full investigation.
Reiterating its commitment to justice and accountability, the PSC assured Nigerians that all officers found culpable would face the full weight of the law.
The Commission also extended condolences to the family of the deceased and urged members of the public to remain calm while the justice process runs its course.
