Police Arrest Originator of False Abuja Terror Attack Video, Debunk Viral Claim

The Nigeria Police Force (NPF) has debunked a viral video alleging an ongoing terrorist attack in the Federal Capital Territory (FCT), Abuja, describing the claim as entirely false, misleading, and malicious.

The development comes as operatives of the Force arrested the alleged originator of the misinformation, identified as Pam Joseph, following credible intelligence and digital forensic investigations.

In a statement issued by the Force Public Relations Officer, DCP Anthony Okon Placid, the Police clarified that no such attack occurred anywhere within the FCT, reassuring residents that the security situation in Abuja remains under control.

According to the statement, preliminary investigations revealed that the viral video was deliberately curated using misleading footage sourced from online platforms to fabricate a false narrative. The intention, the Police noted, was to incite panic, create fear among the public, and undermine confidence in the nation’s security architecture.

“The claims contained in the video are entirely false and should be disregarded,” the statement emphasized.

The arrest of Pam Joseph was said to have followed a thorough investigation linking the suspect directly to the creation and dissemination of the false content across social media platforms.

The Nigeria Police Force reiterated that while citizens are entitled to freedom of expression, such rights do not extend to the deliberate spread of misinformation capable of threatening public peace and national security.

Members of the public were advised to always verify information before sharing and to refrain from engaging in activities that could incite fear or disorder.

The suspect is currently in police custody and will be charged to court upon the conclusion of investigations.

Reaffirming its commitment to maintaining law and order, the Police assured Nigerians that it will continue to monitor digital spaces and take decisive action against individuals involved in spreading false or misleading information.
