The Theatre Commander, Joint Task Force (North East), Operation HADIN KAI (OPHK), Major General Abdulsalam Abubakar, has said the operation’s reward and sanction system has significantly improved troop discipline and encouraged more proactive and innovative approaches in the ongoing counter-terrorism campaign in the North-East.

Major General Abubakar made the disclosure on Wednesday, April 1, 2026, while receiving a delegation from the Army Headquarters Department of Operations (AHQ DAOPS), which visited the North-East theatre to assess operational activities and the effectiveness of Operation HADIN KAI.

According to a statement by the Media Information Officer, Lieutenant Colonel Sani Uba, the visit took place at the Headquarters Theatre Command, Joint Task Force (North East), Operation HADIN KAI, Maimalari Military Cantonment, Maiduguri.

The assessment visit, he said, forms part of the Army Headquarters’ ongoing efforts to evaluate operational activities and strengthen effectiveness across various theatres of operation.

Speaking during the engagement, Major General Abubakar underscored the importance of the AHQ DAOPS team in identifying operational gaps and reinforcing ongoing military efforts. He urged the delegation to carry out a thorough and objective assessment capable of generating actionable recommendations to further improve operational efficiency, not only within Operation HADIN KAI but across other theatres nationwide.

He noted that the command places high value on independent assessments from outside the theatre, describing them as critical to sustaining momentum and improving battlefield outcomes.

The Theatre Commander also disclosed that troops of Operation HADIN KAI recently neutralised over 300 terrorists across multiple fronts, including the Timbuktu Triangle, Sambisa Forest and Mallam Fatori, during the decisive phase of the ongoing dry season operations.

He said the feat has greatly boosted troop morale, attributing the success to robust logistics and administrative support, as well as the implementation of the Chief of Army Staff’s Command Philosophy.

In his remarks, the Team Leader of the AHQ DAOPS delegation, Colonel Olubukola Olusanya, commended the theatre command for what he described as a detailed and insightful operational briefing, noting that it reflected the significant gains recorded in the theatre.

Colonel Olusanya said the purpose of the visit was to assess operational activities and identify areas requiring urgent attention, adding that such periodic assessment visits are designed to ensure continuous improvement through timely recommendations and interventions.

He assured the Theatre Commander and his management team that the delegation would conduct a comprehensive and objective evaluation and provide feedback aimed at further enhancing operational effectiveness across all theatres of operation.

During the visit, the delegation received a comprehensive operational briefing on activities within the Operation HADIN KAI theatre.

The engagement concluded with an interactive session, presentation of souvenirs and a group photograph.
