Troops of the Nigerian Army, in collaboration with operatives of the Department of State Services (DSS), have arrested a suspected member of the Indigenous People of Biafra (IPOB) and its armed wing, the Eastern Security Network (ESN), during a raid in Enugu State.

Security sources disclosed that the operation was carried out on April 25 at about 6:20 p.m. by troops of 82 Division Garrison, alongside personnel of the 103 Battalion and 197 Special Forces Battalion.

The joint team reportedly conducted the raid at Obinofia Ndiagu village, where one suspected IPOB/ESN operative was apprehended. During the operation, three mobile phones were recovered from the suspect.

Sources added that the suspect, along with the recovered items, is currently in the custody of the 82 Military Intelligence Brigade for further investigation and necessary action.

The arrest is said to be part of ongoing efforts by security agencies to dismantle criminal networks and restore peace across the South-East region.

In a related development, troops of 13 Brigade, working with personnel of the National Drug Law Enforcement Agency (NDLEA), have destroyed a large cannabis farm in Cross River State.

According to security sources, the operation was conducted at about 10:30 a.m. on April 25 during a routine patrol under Operation UDO KA.

The illicit plantation, located in Uwét community in Akamkpa Local Government Area, was estimated to span about three hectares. Troops and NDLEA operatives discovered the farm during the patrol and subsequently destroyed it.

No arrests were made in connection with the illegal cultivation.

Authorities say the operation forms part of sustained efforts to curb drug-related crimes and dismantle criminal networks in the region.
