Vice Admiral Idi Abbas says the 2-bedroom home for late LME Aminu’s family honors his ultimate sacrifice and reflects the Navy’s enduring support for families of fallen personnel.
In a touching show of remembrance and welfare support, the Nigerian Navy has handed over a fully completed two-bedroom house to the family of late Leading Marine Engineering Mechanic Aminu A, who died in active service while deployed to Operation FANSAN YAMMA in Zamfara State.
The house, donated on the directive of the Chief of the Naval Staff, Vice Admiral Idi Abbas, was officially presented to the deceased sailor’s widow, Mrs Saadatu Aminu, during a solemn ceremony held on Tuesday, March 24, 2026.
Representing the Chief of the Naval Staff, a senior naval officer said the gesture fulfilled a promise by the naval leadership to support the family of the late rating, who paid the ultimate sacrifice on January 20, 2025, in the line of duty.
According to the Navy, the housing donation is part of broader welfare initiatives designed to ease the burden on families of personnel who die in service to the nation.
The Navy noted that while no material support can replace the loss of a loved one, the house stands as a symbol of honour, recognition, and gratitude for the late sailor’s sacrifice and that of other fallen heroes.
The service also called on Nigerians to continue supporting and praying for members of the Armed Forces and other security agencies who risk their lives daily to protect the country.
In his remarks, the Group Managing Director/Chief Executive Officer of Navy Holdings Limited, Rear Admiral Hamza Ibrahim represented by the Executive Director Administration, Rear Admiral P.K. Zakaria commended the collaborative efforts that ensured the timely completion of the project.
He highlighted the roles played by Navy Holdings Limited and the Naval Building and Construction Company Limited, noting that their contributions were instrumental to the successful delivery of the welfare initiative.
The Nigerian Navy reassured the public of its unwavering commitment to defending the country’s territorial integrity, while upholding high standards of care, responsibility, and honour for its personnel and their families.
The Nigerian Navy reaffirmed its commitment to the welfare of its officers and ratings, stressing that motivated personnel remain central to addressing Nigeria’s security challenges.
Officials also commended the Naval Building and Construction Company Limited and Navy Holdings Limited for their roles in delivering the project.
At the climax of the ceremony, the keys to the new home were formally presented to Mrs Saadatu Aminu, marking a solemn but powerful tribute to a sailor who gave his life in service to the nation.
